3 College Streetwear Looks: Back to School Outfit Ideas on a Budget

Updated: Sep 24, 2023

As we transition from summer to fall, we rest in the limbo of the back-to-school season. By now, you have probably already started your countdown to the new academic school year and are looking for some fresh outfit inspo. Luckily, I just graduated college and have wrangled up all my outfit do’s and don'ts of college fashion. From 8 am classes to 11 pm Friday nights on the town, I’ve got you covered with these 3 college streetwear looks for back to school. My thoughtfully curated list of trendy and versatile outfit ideas will help you make a confident statement when you return to campus this fall.

Here are my top 3 outfit looks that will take you from day to night (and on a budget)!

For any Occasion: Cute, Chic, & Comfortable

My first go-to style recommendation is that you keep it cool and casual to class with some timeless pieces. All you need are a good-fitting pair of jeans, a graphic tee, sneakers, and accessories. This is the most versatile outfit option; this look will be the perfect statement from class to the grocery store to coffee with a friend.

My #1 tip for taking this cute yet casual outfit a little more elevated is to ensure you have a pair of jeans that fit you like a glove. My favorite jeans are the 501 Levi’s in blue denim. Luckily, I found this pair here on Amazon for up to 43% off.

My second tip is to incorporate some accessories into this outfit, whether a stylish bag or some trendy and simple jewelry like these earrings here>>>

Athleisure Allure: Sporty and Stylish

Now, if you’re not a jeans kind of girl - I get it!

For those busy days where you’re crammed between the gym, classes, and studying, embracing the athleisure wear trend is a go-to. Luckily, there’s a way to embrace comfort without sacrificing style with a timeless combo that will have you feeling amazing for early morning classes AND a quick gym session.

To take any athleisure wear outfit to the next level, you need a few statement pieces - whether that’s your shoes or a sweatshirt; elevating your outfit with quality, eye-catching pieces are sure to pull your look together.

It’s as easy as pulling on a pair of your favorite leggings with a sports bra and a good quality, statement pullover. My all-time favorite pullover to wear is a quarter-zip hoodie. It’s the perfect piece to layer as we approach colder months, and they’re super easy to dress up and showcase some layered necklaces, too. It’s the perfect, effortlessly cool look for class, before or after the gym.

My latest obsession has been wearing this Lululemon Scuba Quarter Zip Dupe that’s half the price on Amazon… Seriously, it’s one of the best dupes I’ve found YET.

If you already have this half-priced Lululemon dupe, you must let me know how you style yours!

Night on the Town: Fun & Fashionable

When I was in college, the go-to ‘night out’ outfit between my friends and I, consisted of jeans and a ‘going out top.’ Our version of a ‘going out top’ was something that made us feel confident and sexy and was a little more elevated than our typical graphic tees and jeans outfit for running errands during the day

This was my all-time tried and true ‘going out top’ >>>

The material is so comfortable and incredibly flattering, no matter your chest size or body type. The square neckline and cut-out sides added the perfect flare to this outfit without it being way too over the top.

I also really loved this top too>>> With a pair of dark Levi jeans and a pair of black platform Converse—SO CUTE!

I hope that you feel inspired by some of my top 3 college streetwear looks for back to school. All of these items are tired-and-true and fairly inexpensive for all my girls who are balling on a budget. Let me know your favorite style and what you'll be wearing this back to school season.

P.S: A word of advice for everyone going back to college - Whether you’re a freshman or a senior… It’s okay to stand out, but it’s also okay to blend in too. As an introvert myself, I wish I had someone to reassure me that it’s okay to be the quiet or “safe player.” What matters is that you’re comfortable and feel confident in the way you move and express yourself.

And no matter your personality type (introvert or extrovert), I’m confident that these 3 college streetwear looks for back-to-school will inspire some of your own confidence and style while at uni this semester! Stay true to you—you got this! 💖
